Delivery of Xiaomi SU7 may delayed by 6 months

According to Reuters’ investigation on Xiaomi’s car app, delivery times for the standard SU7 model, priced at CNY 215,900 ($29,870 or roughly Rs. 24,89,900), could range from 18 to 21 weeks. Similarly, deliveries for the SU7 Pro model are expected to take 18 to 21 weeks, while the highest-priced model, costing CNY 299,900 (about Rs. 34,58,709), may require 27 to 30 weeks for delivery.

The SU7, with its design drawing comparisons to Porsche’s Taycan and Panamera sports cars, enters the fiercely competitive arena of the world’s largest auto market, where over 40 brands vie for consumer attention.

In response to the market dynamics, other companies are also offering incentives. Aito, backed by Huawei, is providing discounts of up to CNY 20,000 (around Rs. 2,30,000) on its new M7 SUVs until the end of April, while Xpeng is offering subsidies of up to CNY 20,000 on its flagship electric SUV G9 for a limited period. Additionally, Chery has announced tax breaks, trade-in subsidies, and cash discounts on some of its popular gasoline-engine vehicles.

Despite the challenges faced by newcomers in the market, analysts highlight Xiaomi’s advantage due to its strong financial position and expertise in smartphones, particularly in developing smart dashboards, a feature highly valued by Chinese consumers.

To kickstart sales, Xiaomi has introduced two special versions of the SU7 called “Founder’s Edition,” which come with complimentary gifts such as refrigerators. The initial batch of 5,000 Founder’s Edition cars sold out immediately, and a second round of sales has been initiated, although the exact number available is not yet specified.
